The Golden Temple is somewhat of an institution in Brookline, MA. It is definitely not your ordinary Chinese restaurant. And its the only place in Brookline I know of that is know for occasional celebrity sightings. I’ve been told Woody Allen has been to the GT!
First, the food is amazing. They do cook with premium olive oil. Their chicken is farm-raised and free-range, you can be sure any meat you get there is free of hormones, antibiotics, and steroids and has been raised on a vegetarian diet. Seafood is delivered daily. To sweeten things, they use sugar or maple syrup. Nothing processed. And they never use MSG.
But wait, it gets better. On the weekends, this Chinese restaurant turns into a nightclub. They have a great DJ, and while it sometimes takes a bit, by the end of the night the bar area and dance floor is hopping.
Lastly, the Golden Temple is known for it’s famous Mai Tai. Four types of rum, orgeat, lime juice, and curaçao. It is good. And it is STRONG. In fact, if you know folks who have been there, ask them about it. Many have stories about the time they accidentally had two. You don’t go to the Golden Temple for Mai Tais. You go for Mai Tai. Singular. Trust me on this one.
Then lastly, about the photo. Every year for New Years Eve, they Golden Temple brings in a giant block of ice, and chisels a beautiful ice sculpture that stays on display until it melts. Nice touch.
I would definitely say that unique restaurants like the Golden Temple are a definite reason why Top Chef should come here to film season 10.
C’mon #TopChef, #yougottatryboston!
